GrivaVision Portable Digital Colposcope Featured by Runtime BRT on YouTube and Instagram

Griva Healthcare is pleased to share that GrivaVision, our portable digital colposcope, has been featured by Caleb Friesen on his Runtime BRT YouTube channel and Instagram.

    About the Feature

The feature explains how GrivaVision supports clinicians in identifying precancerous changes of the cervix, so that they can be treated before cancer develops. It highlights the device's high-resolution optical zoom imaging, guided examination workflow, structured scoring and digital reporting. It also covers the ability to share images with a remote specialist for review, which can extend colposcopy services to smaller clinics and rural areas.

We thank Caleb Friesen and Runtime BRT for drawing attention to the need for accessible cervical cancer screening in India.

This Indian device, which looks kind of like a hair dryer, could help doctors to spot the changes that can lead to cancer before they actually become cancer.

The device is called GrivaVision, and it's designed to help doctors find precancerous lesions on the cervix. It was built by a Visakhapatnam-based company called Griva Health, and it's a very important device because cervical cancer doesn't usually appear overnight. In most cases, it starts as an HPV infection, which can sometimes cause abnormal cells to develop in the cervix, and then over time, some of these abnormal cells can turn into cancer. But if doctors can find these precancerous changes early enough, then they can actually treat them before cancer develops.

The problem, though, is finding them. Because one of the procedures that doctors use to closely examine suspicious changes in the cervix, it's called a colposcopy, and traditionally, it requires a specialized machine and a doctor who's trained to use it. Which becomes a problem when you're trying to screen women in smaller clinics or rural areas because these colposcopy machines are actually not very portable.

And so this is where GrivaVision comes into the picture. They use high-resolution cameras with optical zoom and up to 15 times magnification to give doctors a much closer look at the cervix and help them to spot suspicious changes. But the most interesting part about GrivaVision is their software. It can guide clinicians through the examination, it can help them to systematically score what they're seeing and generate a digital report. And if a trained colposcopist isn't physically present, the images can also be shared with a specialist somewhere else for review, which means, in theory, the patient and the specialist no longer need to be in the same place.

And India badly needs solutions like this because more than 75,000 women die from cervical cancer in India every single year, despite the fact that cervical cancer is mostly preventable through vaccination, screening, and treatment of precancerous lesions. And so if Griva Health can make this accurate and affordable at scale, a cancer that is often caught far too late could potentially be caught much earlier using a device that literally fits in your hand.

    About GrivaVision

The GrivaVision colposcope is designed to make colposcopy practical wherever women are screened. It combines high-resolution imaging with a guided examination workflow, structured scoring and digital reporting to support precancerous lesion detection at the point of care. Because images can be shared for remote specialist review, GrivaVision also supports tele-colposcopy, bringing colposcopy for rural clinics and smaller facilities within reach.
